Title: Courage to Soar Pdf A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance
Author: Simone Biles
Published Date: 2016
Page: 250

Gr 7 Up—Nineteen-year-old Biles, Olympic gold medalist and the most decorated U.S. gymnast of all time, takes readers along her journey to the podium in this memoir. After spending her early childhood in and out of foster care, Biles was adopted by her biological grandparents. She began her gymnastics training at the age of six after a field trip to Bannon's Gymnastix, where the coaches quickly discovered that she "had what it took to go all the way." Biles describes not only her gymnastics training and career but also her personal life, including her grandmother's death, the difficult decisions she made in order to balance school and gymnastics, her "bratty period" in her early teens, and her love for her car, with its zebra-print interior. In recent years, Biles has won three consecutive world championship titles followed by her team gold and individual wins at the 2016 Olympics. Biles's narration is effervescent, showing her to be, as her brother says, "a goofy and down-to-earth kid." The tone is conversational and includes casual phrases such as "if you can't already tell" and "just kidding." She expresses appreciation for her family, friends, teammates, and coaches and frequently credits God and her faith for her success. One slight caveat: readers without background knowledge about gymnastics may not find the terminology to be adequately explained. VERDICT Essential for libraries serving tween and teen gymnastics fans.—Magdalena Teske, Naperville Public Library, IL Nineteen-year-old Biles, Olympic gold medalist and the most decorated U.S. gymnast of all time, takes readers along her journey to the podium in this memoir. VERDICT Essential for libraries serving tween and teen gymnastics fans.–Magdalena Teske, Naperville Public Library, IL (School Library Journal)Who can forget the radiant smile and inexhaustible energy of four-feet-eight, 19-year-old Simone Biles, Olympian gymnast? This inspiring and humorous memoir details how Simone, with the help and support of her family, coaches, faith, and friends, succeeded in winning five Olympic medals in 2016, four gold and a bronze. After a brief time in foster care, Simone was six when she and her younger sister were adopted by her grandparents (whom she refers to as her mom and dad). Flipping on the family trampoline and an unexpected daycare trip to the local tumbling gym sparked her love of gymnastics. Despite her rookie success, she missed being selected for the USA women’s junior team by one spot and was too young to compete in the 2012 Olympics. But success was in her future, due in part to her incredible support system---her parents even built their own gym. Simone is admirable, but it’s the unwavering support of her family and coaches that will make a lasting impact on readers. -Sharon Rawlins (Booklist)

Simone Biles’ entrance into the world of gymnastics may have started on a daycare field trip in her hometown of Spring, Texas, but her God-given talent, passion, and perseverance have made her one of the top gymnasts in the world, as well as a four-time winner of Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro.

But there is more to Simone than the nineteen medals—fourteen of them gold—and the Olympic successes. Through years of hard work and determination, she has relied on her faith and family to stay focused and positive, while having fun competing at the highest level and doing what she loves. Here, in her own words, Simone takes you through the events, challenges, and trials that carried her from an early childhood in foster care to a coveted spot on the 2016 Olympic team.

Along the way, Simone shares the details of her inspiring personal story—one filled with the kinds of daily acts of courage that led her, and can lead you, to even the most unlikely of dreams.

A Fascinating look backstage at the world of competitive gymnastics and a happy book to read. A fascinating look backstage at the world of competitive gymnastics through the eyes of a world champion. i found it interesting to read about her childhood, her family, and the earliest beginnings of her interest in gymnastics, and to lear about her coaches and the intense training regimen it took to achieve the skills she achieved. It opened my eyes to a whole world I was unfamiliar with. The book is well-written and easy to read. Simone is an exceptionally gifted young woman who takes a real joy in her career as an athlete and also enjoys her family and friends. it made me happy to read about her and her accomplishments.Loved it! So inspirational. I can't understand why she didn't thank Aly personally in the acknowledgments. The book tells of her life's triumphs and setbacks as well as life lessons she learned along the way. Finished this in one day. Couldn't put it down.Good stories, humor, and encouragement I'm normally not your biography sort, but after seeing Simone's fantastic performances, I had to read this. And I don't regret it. The print is large (about size 14) , so it's quick and easy, but there's good humor and lessons within the stories. Simone constantly tells what she's accomplished, yet never boasts. Whether talking about how Simone was adopted by her grandparents or a funny bee incident at a gymnastics competition, it's engaging and fast-paced. I kept reading stories out loud to share with the family.I'd even say Simone makes a good role model. Maybe some parents wouldn't like how she wanted a belly ring or didn't let her parents know about mischief she and her sister got into, but her perseverance and hard work set a good example for all readers.

Toddlers Are A**holes Free Pdf

Title: Toddlers Are A**holes Pdf It's Not Your Fault
Author: Bunmi Laditan
Published Date: 2015-04-07
Page: 176
Toddler a**holery is a normal part of human development—not unlike puberty, except this stage involves throwing food on the floor and taking swings at people who pay your way in life. For parents of toddlers, it's a "you better laugh so you don't cry" period.

Bunmi Laditan's hilarious, satirical guide to toddlerhood offers parents instant (and very welcome) comic relief—along with the very good news that "It's Not Your Fault." Chapters cover the cost of raising a toddler, feeding your toddler, potty-training, tantrums, how to manage the holidays, and "how not to die inside." Parents will see themselves in the very funny sections on taking your toddler to restaurants ("One parent will spend their time walking your toddler around the restaurant and outside like a cocker spaniel, while the other, luckier parent will eat alone."), Things You Thought You'd Never Say That You Now Say As a Parent of a Toddler ("I can tell you're pooping because your eyes are watering."), and how to order pizza ("Spend $40 on pizza delivery. Listen to your toddler cry for 30 minutes about how the pizza is all wrong. Watch your toddler take a small bite of crust. Google 'can anger give you a heart attack?' Start the bedtime routine.").

Laditan's wildly funny voice has attracted hundreds of thousands of fans of Honest Toddler on social media; here she speaks parent-to-tired-parent, easing the pains and challenges of raising toddlers with a hefty dose of adult humor and wit.

You'll love your toddler more knowing you're not alone in your pain If you want to pull your hair out over your toddler's antics then this is the book for you. The laughter helps you cope with the feelings of frustration and discouragement. I bought it for a friend who has a compliant toddler and it wasn't as fun for her. But if your typical toddler has you wondering what happened to your life then get this book to release some of the pressure! So funny! BAWhahahahahaha! This book provides the comic relief needed after a long day with a terrible two! A little vulgar, but expected given the title. My husband walked in from putting our toddler to bed and found me laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face. We sit and laugh at the scenarios because we have lived through most of it.It’s a perfect gift for a parent who has survived the first two years of baby life, heading into toddlerhood. If you catch a squirrel, we will go get ice cream! (Said so I could read this book in my yard) Stay at home mom here. The only reason I didn't write a review sooner was because I had this book in my face. (I was able to read it by sitting outside and telling my son we would get ice cream if he could catch a squirrel.) Speaking of face, toddlerhood slapped us in the face way before I expected it. 15 months. I started off as one of THOSE moms. Crunchy granola no tv or electronics organic gluten free "not my sweet angel" moms. Now my toddler is a little S$#% half the time (remember, we aren't full blown toddler yet.) We have literally worn out one DVD of Frozen and my husband was told not to bother coming home from work without a new one. As I write this, I stink. Like really stink. I can't recall my last shower. My kid sits on my lap while I poop and my house is covered with a white film, being a combo of yogurt and lotion, which are interchangeable to him. My meals consists of whatever he didn't eat, which is often enough that I know I will at least get one hot rejected meal a day. And I secretly despise my mother just a little bit for being smug that my son is always the perfect angel at her house. (Not that he's not a sweetheart at mine, but it's a delicate walk that can change in a split second). This book is funny as hell. If you have a toddler, this book is hilarious. I came close to peeing my pants. (If you are a new mom, you probably will pee your pants. Totally normal.) Because it's so true. Every sentence. If you are or have a first time pregnant friend, this should be purchased for a glimpse into the future and a fantastic non stop laugh.
